Meet Our Founder

Hey sailor, I’m Andrew Sorensen from Connecticut. I’ve been on the water my whole life, literally since before I can remember and that passion combined with my engineering background led to the creation of the Sailing Store.

Along the way I became a USCG Near Coastal Master Captain, a top ILCA/Laser sailor, and a college sailing coach. My background in chemical engineering really makes me consider what materials are used in our manufacturing because I know how bad plastic is and we see it every place we go, it is my mission to create products that last a long time and eventually biodegrade including our packaging that we ship orders with. Everything I build I've tested on a real boat, some products have developed with many iterations taking years to create - like Sunny Sauce, the first prototype was made in 2012 and I made it for me to use while sailing, it wasn't until other sailors said hey what's that and where can I buy it? that I made it a public product.

Founder-Led

You’re buying direct from the person who races, coaches, and builds the gear. All our products are things I use and trust as a professional.

Purpose-Built

I innovated to solve real problems I've faced on the water - like SpinClip, for decades I sailed on boats that used electrical tape to secure the halyard, so I thought why not use a clip?

Quality First

Small-batch manufacturing with premium materials, tested in 35kts with big easterly waves so you know your gear works when it matters.

“Andrew’s lever works really well. So easy to install, I didn't even need instructions and my bailer is fixed” — Local ILCA Fleet Captain

Questions about setup or fit?

I’m happy to help you pick the right gear or install it correctly.
